New to forum 1985 60 HP exchange

Hi all great forum lots good of info here.My ? is i have a 1985 force 60 HP. Will a lower gear unit off an 85 to 125 HP Force work on this 60 hp of mine.The model# is 608F5A The serial# Is 1124 titel says 47hp dont know about that part of it #numbers do match.I am new to boating thanks to my son who bought a new boat and gave me his old one.Bless his heart. The boat is a 16 ft ALU DEEP V.# on it is LUNF - 5128M76L not sure of the maker. I have a 55 HP CHRYSLER 72 Serial#559HD Model#1816.I also a 60 HP Force motor will thay work on this boat or are thay to big?Thanks andGod Bless.

Hello Merc1 and welcome to Iboats. It appears that the motor you have is an odd ball. Mercury calls a 1985 60 HP model number 608F5A as a chrysler. Funny thing is that the last production year for Chrysler was 1984. I looked at the lower unit for your motor and it looks like an oddball. The internals are different and the drive shaft is also different. A newer chrysler or older Force might mount up but my guess is it wont.<br /><br />There should be a hull plate that gives the max HP for the transom. My guess is that it is probably 45 HP max rating.

My book says a 60, 85, nad 125hp, 1984-1989, all use the same gearcase. <br /><br />But it has to be the lower unit with the one piece driveshaft and the single exhaust outlet (through the snout above the prop).
