New to electric start motor question

I've spent a couple of hours trying to find the answer to this on the net, without any luck. Based on that, I am sure this is going to be one of those "DUH" questions, but here goes:<br /><br />I just bought a 1979 50hp Johnson SeaHorse - this is my first electric start motor. I have the Seloc manual for it, but it is most unhelpful when it comes to how to ground the motor. I have the control box and harness in place, (single lever type control box) but if the diagram is to be believed, the ground for the motor is going back to the box via a 14ga wire. <br /><br />I don't believe for a second that this is correct. How do I wire it up? I know the positive comes off the solenoid to the battery direct, but how do I ground the motor itself?<br /><br />Thanks in advance for any help, I'm really hoping to take my family out this weekend.

Got the same book in front of me now ,seams straight forward to me ( Selco page A40 Appendix ? ).<br />Got a smal scan of it here <br />You need a ground connection for the kontrol box too ,therefore the 14 GA cable .<br /><br />If you wonder how to connect battery to the motor , do you have the 6 GA black cable, it goes from the battery to the ground ( clean metal point ) on the motor .<br />This sign means earth

, all connections with this sign are connected to earth on the motor ( powerhead /lower-unit , metal )

Thanks very much! The only info I could find on the net was that it didn't need to be hooked up, because the boat would have a ground built into it, and the motor would automatically be grounded. My boat is too old for that, so everything is direct wired to the battery. Thanks again for the info!
