Dear Folks,

I am new to this board. About three years ago I put a 15'6" 1979 Fisher Marine aluminum boat and a Yamaha 30 back on the water, but made no attempt to actually restore the boat beyond making it functional. The new wiring is run in exterior conduit and the live wells remain "closed." Thank God for bilge pumps. The original shabby decking and carpet is still there, but the boat is now severely functional. I did build a rear deck to use when pushpoling and for access to lift the motor. On the other hand, she's a working boat. Old Stumpbumper taught me a lot of lessons, especially electronic, and most of them were probably wrong. She's too narrow for fat old men, but I'm keeping her.

I was recently given a 1989 Sprint 276 18' fiberglass bass boat with a 150 Merc. Black Max, free for the hauling. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. This boat and motor have been sitting uncovered in a field for 13 years. There is an armadillo den under the motor, and the skeg was buried 6" in the dirt. The trailer tires were dry-rotted flat. The stainless prop looks brand new. The seats have disintergrated. The boat was originally used for tournament fishing, and has a customized jackplate and a hot-foot throttle. The water pump gave out, and they used the trolling motor to get back. The good ole boy who owned it swears they didn't burn up the motor, but he just lost interest, and didn't fix it. We put jumper cables on the tilt motor and succeeded in lifting the motor. Something else-- I'm not sure what-- also powered up. Thirteen years in a field. I put new tires ($107) on the wheels, and will be pulling her out to take the motor to a Merc mechanic.

I'd appreciate any information about Sprint boats this board can give me. I'm from Oxford, Mississippi, and Sprint Boats were made in Amory, Mississippi, but I don't know anything about them. I am sure I'm going to find a whole host of problems, and I 'll need all the help I can get.
