Exactly why I won't consider foreign vehicles as a used buyer. Great when your the first buyer not when you're the second.

Except for a few cases, the car holds its value because its a better car. The Buick lost its value because its not a better car, used or new. Even used at a lower price, I would never buy one. My parents have had a few Buicks including one in their garage right now. My parents bought their Buick and I bought my Lexus at the same time. My Lexus with 150K drives like a newer car than their car with 30K.

I probably will never again buy another new car. The Lexus was a unique opportunity. No matter how well a car holds its value, always way better to buy used.

Well see to me there are shades of grey in there. When we bought the Buick, we needed a tow vehicle with powerful v8 with high tq numbers, leather, heated seats, 4wd/AWD, navigation, rear dvd, curtain bags, stability control, displacement on demand, that looks nice in near new shape with low miles still under the bumper to bumper warranty..so low miles. We haven't had any issues, the truck does what we want it to and is genuinely a nice vehicle.
Would a foreign truck be a bit more luxurios with a few nicer bits and pieces? Yea pretty sure it would be but it better be since you pay extra for it. As for longevity...we shall see how the Rainier holds up over the years. My point I suppose is once I get to a certain level of luxury and capability, I don't need any more. The equivalent say 4 Runner would have been hugely more money. I wrote a 20k check for the Rainier slightly used but some fool paid 45k for it just a few years before. It's just hard to argue with that level of equipment and capability for what I had sitting in the checking account.

I agree totally with the buying used part.

Yes but the other shoe is the months you spend shopping and being lied to and driving all over the place. After my most recent used car I got last November, I can almost see why people do break down and buy new.

Agreed takes a bit to find the right deal on a used vehicle, put patience can save you major $$$. The Edge I bought my wife stickered at $43K, I picked it up for $30k with 9800 miles a year old.

See the difference is i generally won't spend more than 20k out of pocket for a vehicle but insist on very new, premium or near luxury suv's with everything offered in near perfect shape. That means 4wd, nav, v8, rear dvd, moon roof and every single box on the options list except usually the engine block heater isn't present. Add to that car prices here in MN are amongst the most overpriced nationally so my solution for the last 13 or so years is to buy out of state. Either target any southern state or as in the case of my most recent suv, I targeted the states in the worst economic conditions. Michigan and Ohio particularly have cheap prices or at least they did as of last November. Thats a combo for a lot of shopping nationally. If I bumped up to 30k, shopping would be a snap. If a person did it how I do it though you have to have a fair amount of confidence in the sight unseen situation and the pictures you see but a lot of extra money in the checkbook you saved.
