fixing up the bayliner 1750 over the winter..

want to use the old prop as a spare
Its a OMC# 176215 14x19 R. on a Cobra 2.3L
5400 RPM @ 42 MPH. Gets on plane nice and moves right along.

I could get a new OMC prop, or would a 13x19 stainless / composite be better?
(cant find any 14x19 stainless or composite)
The boat is 1750 LBS empty, and I would be running lightly loaded mostly..

Is going down an inch in diameter going to hurt performance, especially if I do load the boat down with people/gear?

What would be the best prop for this boat?

Ayuh,... Diameter is pretty much Irrevelant, as it's merely a function of blade design,...

You sure the rpms are at 5400? If you drop an inch it will raise the rpms.
I think that motor is supposed to only go about 4400 at WOT.Not positive about that but I'd check that.
Why would you want to change the prop? It sounds like it's operating ok like that.
If anything go to a stainless a 17p.Is equal to what you have.J

Max rpm is rated at 5600,Your close at 5400 good hole shot and 42 is very respectable. What performance are you looking for. I think if you go to ss you should drop to a 17" Rule of thumb; as pitch increases diameter decreases pitch decreases diameter increases.Diameter is generally only considered in extreme applications like a pontoon.

Thanks for the replys guys..
The reason I want a new prop is that the old one is chewed up, looks like someone hit a rock or something. It still works ok, but i'm shure a new one would work better.

Did a little looking and figuring and decided a 13x19 would be fine for the light load I would be carrying. Its a big and heavy boat for me but not enough to need a 14" diameter prop I guess..

Lets hear opinions on the hustler and solas 13x19 on a bayliner 17' er
figure Ill go cheap for now. Got the entire winter season to get a prop..

The 1" reduction in diameter along with a prop in perfect condition (better diggin in the water) sounds like it will stay under the max WOT rpm.
