new prop came

so i try to take the old one off.. use a 2X4 to wedge against the blade, and took the nut off, and the retainer washer.. the prop should slide off now?? it wont! i tried and tried, just using my hands and pulling.. i dont havea rubber mallet, and didnt know what else to try, so i cinched the nut back down, and bent up the retainer washer tabs.. to try another day i guess..

what should i do to help 'persuade' this prop to come off.. and then what do i use on the shaft so this doesnt happen again? is a rubber mallet the way to go, or is there a easier way? i would like to have this prop rebuilt, and dont want to cause any undo damage if possible.. i just bought the boat a few weeks ago, and this is the first time for it to come off.. thanks

There are prop pullers.Soak it good with PB blaster Back the nut off to the end
to protect the threads.Have someone pull out on the prop and useing a piece of hard wool to protect the shaft hit it with a hammer to pop it loose.Or use a puller to apply pressure, some times let it stand under pressure gradually increased over time.
