A friend of mine who liked what I had done with my own boats has tabbed me to rebuild one of his! It is an early 1970s GW Invader, 13-footer. Nice little V-hull with a pad, so it should go like stink! He's looking for a 50-75hp Johnrude for it this winter.

The boat needs a floor and stringers, as well as a transom rebuild. Should be fun! I'm just doing the structural stuff as he is good at body work to make it pretty when I'm done with the nitty gritty part... (The pics are of one identical to the one I'm redoing...)

I'm also planning on reskinning an old 9-foot 3-point Hedlund hydro I've had for years. I used to run it quite a bit back in the early 1990s until we blew out one of the sponsons. The decks (thin plywood) are showing their age so I may just go ahead and reskin the whole thing when I do the one sponson. It'd be a good size for my 13-year old to take for a spin...

I don't recall what GW stood for, but I do know it was not Grady White...

Personally, I'm pushing for a 3-cylinder OMC. A bright orange Johnson Stinger "Mean Machine" would look sweet!

Yes, That Invader was made by Grady White, (in their wilder days) one cool little boat as I remember! The styling was along the lines of the Glen L kit designed "TNT", but a fiberglas version, not wood.

Re: New Projects for this Winter!

I got more done this weekend and updated the Share-A-Project page...
http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,433,00.html

Interestingly, the boat appeared to have some sort of SeaCast-like transom that someone poorly installed. They left much of the original wood core in place. The resin core wasn't stuck to either the inner or outer skins and the transom buckled where the resin core met the rotted wood core. What a mess...

Re: New Projects for this Winter!

My buddy just picked up a pair of 1990s era Johnrude 60hp 3-cylinders - should be enough to build one good one as one has a good powerhead and no lower, and the other has really HIGH compression (.ie no turny of the flywheel!!) and a good lower unit. So it looks like a 60hp will eventually reside on this little beastie's transom! As the rebuilder of the boat, I feel it is my responsibility to test drive this thing several times once it is fully rigged. Whoohoo!

Re: New Projects for this Winter!

Thanks guys! I feel like I'm hitting the home stretch. Once the floor is fully glassed in, I'll repair the dash board (a fatty must have sat on the foredeck at some point - broke the dash) and then put the lid back on. That'll be the extent of my involvement with the hull, as the owner wants to do the body work and have it painted. I'll probably help him with the rigging when it comes to that later... The motors were actually 70s, not 60s. Some set-up work and helm time ought to get us into the 50 mph range!
