You are at the bottom of the rpm range(5000-6000) your engine is rated at 5700rpm. What kind of boat is it on? Perhaps you are overpropped, but maybe there is something not right about the engine, or the tach is wrong
I got a 24' center sea ray laguna about 4000 lbs dry I have a 17p prop too and it goes about 5300-5400 with that but only 30 mph the 19p I pick up some more top end
I think with a 17 you should be turning about 5700 at about 45-47
Does the boat respond to up trim?
Is the bottom clean and smooth?
Is the throttle opening all the way?
All cylinders working?
I had it at a dealer last year to get a new Vro they said the compression was good . And engine was fine . I don't have trim tabs and that would prob help . N ya the bottom is need for a paint job real bad that was gonna b my next winter project
One more question that 40-45 mph does that also include xtra weight I always have 4 guys so figure 800# and then 60-80 gal of fuel . N then there's also lots of fish n gear + ice+ drinks+ tools and misc. Junk
A rough bottom isn't going to lose 15 mph but surely contributes to performance loss.
Does it respond to up trim?
Does the boat lay down like it is glued to the water?
Is the throttle opening all the way.
Don't assume because it was gone over that all is right.
A plug wire could have come off. There have been folks that had 2 cylinder motors with a dead cylinder
and didn't realize it but for the loss of power.
Throttle cable out of adjustment.Timing could be set wrong or not advancing as it should.
Link and sync may be wrong.
Fuel delivery may be bad.
Thing is your performance is way off and your running props that at least should let the motor rev freely.
Well its not a simple answer You started with a simple enough question then started adding stipulations.
It appears your at about 5600 lbs. perhaps things are a little more reasonable. I did find a boat at 5100 lbs with a 19" pitch
turning 5550 at 45 mph. You are claiming 5300 with a 17"
I found a 5000 pound boat total weight with a 17" prop turning 5700 at 48 mph.
I'm gonna check the compression tomorrow and double check a few things . How about the engine height I thing my leg is a little low . I got a 30" when I think a 25 would of worked . I put up as high as it goes but still think it could go up another 1" or 2" that's the only other think I can think of
This is my 30" leg compared to my transom I just raised the engine all I could at the beginning of the season . Last year it used to throw a huge rooster tail at high speed but since I raised it up like 3" the wake looks way better
Oof definitely not gonna happen this season . Have to put it on my wish list . And maybe a authorization form th the wife too. So I should leave the prop issue alone n just run it as is for now . What about long term damage ? Is it ok to run like this
If your makling 5000 your probably ok for the season but try to balance weight to help it get on plane and stay on plane easily.
Don't run at just under planed speed nor at barely on plane.
