NEW PROB WITH 850 help...............

my 1976 merc 850 started fine today got on lake ideled real smooth ran good at wot but when i let it set 30 min. or so i would haft to squeze the primer bulb had to do that twice today would not start at all until i primed it also i noticed when i am at idel and lift up the motor it will miss a bit. any input is thankfull thanks kevin

the fuel pump has bad ck. valves try a kit that should take care of it

Make sure the vent is open on the tank fill cap. If you see gas leaking by either end of the line or at the bulb, that could do it as well. Leaking gas usually means it will suck air. Otherwise...what laddiesservice said. Kits are cheap and if it's never been done, it's way overdue.

if the check valve idea doesnt work. check the crankcase for leaks. common problem on old inlines.

i rebuilt the fuel pump. befor i rebuilt it i noticed that when i primed it i noticed a gas leak... so i replaced the fuel line going to the fuel pump mabe that was my prop. im going to try it out next week thank everone for the input
