I have tried looking through webistes for hours and cannot seem to locate any information about my outboard motor. It has a plate with a serial number 7002924 and also says Mercury Keikhaefer Toronto Canada. Does anyone have any idea what year this is and where to get the best info for maintenance and repair help?

Thanks in advance to all replies.

And I should mention it has a 40 sticker on the back...I assume this means it is a model 40, but that still doesn't render any matching serial numbers for year confirmation.

b1551;

Is your engine a 1, 2 or 4 cylinder?

Notes: UNITED STATES 3529446 THRU 3764824 AUSTRALIA 8005740 THRU 8014364 BELGIUM 9012109 THRU 9037733 CANADA 7011058 THRU 7025897

Thank you Carholme again for your help with this. I was looking through the parts list you sent me and see what I found (above). "CANADA 7011058 THRU 7025897". Does that mean this may not be my motor after all?

b1551:

Go to this page:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/parts.cfm

Select Mercury as the manufacturer and then select "Search by Serial Range", then select the 40 (1 Cyl) in the drop down model list. Click on 40 (1 Cyl) and it will provide a list of serial numbers and you will see the range 3305152 thru 7045757, the range in which yours fall. Highlight that range and press "Proceed to Diagrams which will take you to the page which I originally sent to you.

There may be individual notes throughout the various component listings which will identify certain parts as being applicable to specific s/n ranges but that one I sent to you is for your engine.

If you are referring to the "Clamp and Swivel Bracket" pages for serial group 1 and two, you would use group 1. Group two lists the other s/n engines that can use the parts on that page.

Let me know if this is as clear as mud.
