Did you by any chance chorography that load? I'd be interested in seeing the velocity with Bullseye powder. Bullseye is a very fast burning powder and it doesn't take deviation from any set load to really increase chamber pressures. I usually use Bullseye for 38 plinking rounds since you can load a ton of ammo using Bullseye, for little powder cost...

No, I don't have a chrono so I have never collected that data.

For handguns I have been experimenting with different powders for 50 years. My criteria are recoil and accuracy. Not too scientific I guess.

I have settled on Bullseye for everything up to .38 spl, and Unique for .357 and up. I use 4227 for a few odd things, like real short barrels.

I realize that there are many new powders that may be better, but since I'm satisfied with what I use, I see no need to change.

I am old enough to remember the old days. Cast my own 148 gr wadcutters from scrap lead and wheel weights, around 2300 rounds per $8 pound of Bullseye. Primers at $5/1000 were the most expensive part.

Oh crap, you just made me feel bad......LOL.

My Dad had a friend that owned a gas station. He would bring over a 5 gallon bucket of WWs any time I needed some. I would drop over to the station and bring the guys a pizza for their trouble.

Every Friday night on the way home I would stop at K-Mart and pick up a couple coxes of CCI Mini Mags for 99c a box, I saved all the plastic boxes and use them to this day.

Even at that price I used to brag that I shot my 357 cheaper than my .22.

Those days are long gone.

The boats are put up for Winter. I guess shoosting is a good off-season hobby.

As an aside, "shoosting" is my rough translation for the German word Schutzen. My Grandpa and Uncle belonged to such a club back in the day. After 1939 they still went to the club, but just went and drank beer and talked about guns. Uncle Adolf made them all safer without them.....

I saw the H&K came in at 25ozs, empty. That's the EU weight. US is 26.6 empty....Not light.
I have 1more on my list to completely confuse me. I'm on data overload.
Glock 43X. Seems to be another popular model. Hope to see it tomorrow.

Here's the follow-up range report on the Max 9 on my home range where I can vary the distance. Shoots to POA at 5 yards. As previously reported, shoots ~11" low at 25 yards. Accuracy not to bad for a CC pistol. After 300 rounds still not a malfunction.

10 yards, 20 shots, 2-hand hold, Lyman 124 grain RNTL boolits made with Lyman #2 alloy, 3.8 grains Bullseye, red spot on yesterday's newspaper.

I plan to install a reflex sight to be able to dial it in better.

I didn't mean anything was wrong using Bullseye powder. I use it as well. I was merely interested in the velocity only to get an idea what your recipe was yielding. I mold nearly all my handgun bullets and some times some down loaded rifle rounds, of course with gas checks. Interesting to plink with a rifle sometimes... I have two chronographs. The first was an older version that reads out in microseconds that you had a conversion table to look up the speed. The second one, a more compact type, was a Crony Pro. It does a lot more and even has memory capabilities. It reads direct velocity output. I asked about your recipe to see if it was giving pretty close speed from one round to another. I learned a long time ago, top velocity rounds are very rarely accurate rounds. Usually about the upper 3/4 max velocities, or there about, yields the best of both worlds.
When my wife and I were first married, we molded bullets for the local police department to make a little extra money. He dad owned a gun shop and your could easily but primers for less than $8 bucks retail. And powders were also cheap. Now everything concerning ammo reloading, is amazingly high cost. That is purposely make high via the government as well.
Check out a Crony. I think you would like one of them. Not expensive either.

I don't know the Glock 43, but I used to shoot a Glock 23C competitively. 23 was a 40cal with a compensated muzzle. For defensive shooting I like the Glock: they're simple operating, they still shoot in a lot of weird situations (like covering 'em in water 'n mud), and they have a good feel in my hand. Magazine swap was easy in that gun, and even in .40 cal on that one with the muzzle compensator I could double tap pretty effectively at 10 yards.

The trigger pull is a little strange for competitive shooting because of how the safe action works, so I eventually got away from that gun (had to sell it later). But, once I got used to the brake point on the trigger I liked shooting it for general use.

1st we went to the lawyer to discuss wills and financial's. Then to the gun shop.... lol
I can blame the wife, she nudged me into a gun. I didn't like the Glock 43x. I think it was because the trigger was mushy. I really like the Shield Plus PC. Lightweight, great trigger...... If I were carry daily I would have gone with it. Great firearm....

Ended up with the H&K VP9. 2 17rd clips. I call it a hybrid and the dealer agreed. Multiple options to change the grip. Optic ready. Also came with an easy loader. I can throw it in my MH, carry and plink with it. Since I'm not carrying at the moment I think it was the right choice....

No doubt. When we bought our motorhome, bus, I put in a lot of seat time b4 we took it on a trip. Now I need alot of range time. Trouble is, it may be in a parka. They grabbed a brick of 200rd FMJs and 2 boxes of hollows....

I only bought one box of 50 when I got my first nine. Been rollin my own since then. Dad was a printer and when he retired I got a lifetime supply of boolet lead. I can probably last a couple more years until my primers run out. Hopefully they will be back on the shelves at only high prices, not obscene prices like today.

When they were legal I shot an AK with a 30 rounder. Kinda like Hickok45....LOL. After disposing of it and making the gun compliant as well, now I only load 5 at a time. Its still sorta fun, but at least now the neighbors don't get concerned...
