Good golly- that's a lot of work. I'll make an assumption here- you're not married, have no kids and are self-employed. Right? LOL

That would be a very rewarding and enjoyable but MAN, that is a lot of work. It's going to look great from the looks of it.

UFM82

Great work TenE. I don't understand the string work. Did you do that just for stringer hieght? I hope you reinforced under those pedestal mounts.

Re: new pics on project

thanks, it has been a lot of work, but i wanted to learn about boats, and only one way to learn is the hard way. plus i cant afford a new boat. assumptions usually mean something of you and me, but you are right on all, except i am a state employee.
the strings were mostly used to measure the angle of the front stringers. i tried it with 8 then after 2 templates that didnt work i added many more stings. the measurements from each string were (each string had a distance from the first string - length across = floor // depth for both stringers, then the strings where the x-members were i took measuments at the angles) oh yeah, there will be lots of reinforcements under the floor.

TenE, First of all it appears you have done a top-notch job. Now the haunting question. How did a good brand boat with a good appearance get so rotted?

I have had to replace the floor and ski well framing in my '88 19' SeaRay I/O Bowrider, in sections. I also had to repair a crack in the hull under the passenger's seat. However my boat seems to have suffered from the "made on Friday" Quality Control syndrome, whereby most of the floor had a good layer of chop, and some parts had only poly resin (no glass). Yours seemed to have completely disintegrated, from the inside out.

Re: new pics on project

i was told when i bought it, that an old boy came by every few years and bought a new boat for his own little sand lake, i imagine that he left it out pulled up on his bank, and let it fill up like a bathtub. if you can see the water line on the inside of the bulheads, when i saw that, i knew it was a complete rebuild. its exactly what i wanted. i was looking for the newest and worst conditioned boat that i could afford.

That will be pretty sweet when it is done. I am starting to get the itch to do another boat, it is a hard urge to resist...

Nice work. You will have a solid boat then done. Projects like your and Realguns are all the encouragement I need to go find a good rotten boat!

I didn't notice any design components to handle/drain water accumulation in your project notes. Is it set up so water will drain from all locations?

Going to replace all the upholstry?

Re: new pics on project

ive been pretty lucky on the tool section. all i have used ia a 4.5" angle grinder, circular saw, jig saw, and corless drill. i had all of those, but i have spent a little over $1000 just at the epoxy/fiberglass store i go to (dang epoxy resin). still $3000 for this boat completely rebuilt is well worth my time!! better than paying $5000 for one just taken care of.
for drainage, i set it up like the factory. have a pvc pipe under gas tank that lets all water that goes into ski locker out. the water that goes over the bow, there will be another pvc pipe that goes from beginning of the floor down to the first x-member. i thought long and hard about a drainage for the part outside of stringers, but since i know where everything is if many years down the road it gets wet foam, i have a few ideas to drill drain holes. i know where the water sits from when i tore it apart. i plan on upoulstry once i have it working. starting with the pieces that are on the top outside. they were pretty bad, and getting worse! seats have some small cracks, but will prob be next winter project.
