Those of you that saw the 1957 18hp Fastwin that I bought the other week, I liked it so much I went out and bought her cousin, a 1957 Johnson 18hp. She is all original and in great shape. Just got 135 psi on both holes, so pretty happy. Only downfall is cant get the flywheel off, one of the holes for the puller is stripped, gotta find my knocker. Still, great motor, the original paint is in great shape.

Re: New Motor

Nice find. 135 on both holes? Pretty hard to beat that. Probably less than 100 hours on that motor.

Re: New Motor

Definate low hours.

Looked through the window on the flywheel, both coils are new. One of them is white though, first time I have seen that. It is the cylinder not sparking too. It only shows 3k ohms through the winding, while the other coil is around 6k ohms. Will figure it out once I find that darn knocker so I can get this flywheel off.

Oh good. The old 5 bolt lower unit. This I'm afraid was the last good year of the 10hp.

Re: New Motor

i have a friend who is looking for that motor, with electric start. he has just restored a "two seat " hydroplane that was built from a set of plans from a popular mechanics mag from the same era, spec'd out for the 18, nice looking motor!

Re: New Motor

No the 18 is manual only.

I did want another electric to run twins, but when I was told the price I could not say no, manual or not.

HT - So if I could be so bold, how much pocket change did it take to get a beautiful unit like that? Making me jealous.:D Nice find. I picked up the one I'm working on for 110 does.
