Hello from Central Pennsylvania! New forum member and new to the boating world.

I picked up a 1988 Sunbird Something (maybe a corsair based on Google pictures) for very little money. It has an OMC (GM)3.0L.

To my inexperienced eyes the hull looks pretty good but there are a couple of small half-finished repairs. The seats and interior trim are pretty bad. The engine was disassembled and in boxes.

I reassembled the engine and got it running but it knocks so I pulled it out and will rebuild.

Specific stern drive maintenance, checks?
Can I just buy seats or should I re-upholster then?
Possible engine upgrades during rebuild?
Best type of cover?(it has snaps for a little two piece cover and for a whole cover).

Any wisdom, advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm experienced and proficient with electrical and mechanical systems... On dry land. New to this boating stuff.

Thank you in advance,
Jesse
