Hey everyone! I've been searching / reading this forum *A LOT* since discovering it a few weeks ago, now it's time for my first post.
Through a back-story that's to convolted to bore you with, I've recently (re)taken possession of a '53 Evi 15012 that has been sitting outdoors behind a barn for 10+ years.
This engine was my Grandmother's, and I have fond childhood memories of scooting around Lake Hopatcong in her 14' Thompson w/ this engine. The boat is long gone, but I'd like to restore the engine.
I ordered a service manual (hasen't arrived yet) from here on iboats, and I've rebuilt many motors in my life (though never an outboard), so this shouldn't be a huge deal. The Engine is a mess, but I've gotten it to turn, so I'm confident I can get it to run.
Points, coils & caps are all available here @ iboats.....but my main question today is about gaskets: Where can I get them?
I've read posts on this (and other) forum, and when the subject of gaskets for a 15012 comes up, many folks say that "they're available" or "here's a link" or "NAPA has them", etc., but based on my internet searches I'm finding just the opposite.
Head gasket: yes.
Air bypass gaskets: maybe (if you count eBay as a source)
Intake gaskets? Fingerplate gaskets? Carb kits? Exhaust Manifold gaskets? I'm not having much luck.
(I haven't even begun a search for "lower" stuff yet)
I'd like to buy a "kit".....i.e. "everything I need". Is that possible? Or just wishful thinking?
Based on what I've read + youtube videos, etc., people seem to rebuild 15012 engines pretty regularly, so I'm thinking I should be able to find these.
Any solid leads would be greatly appreciated.
PS: The old gaskets aren't *horrible* and none are broken, but I've never been a fan of re-using gaskets. It's kinda like dirty underwear after a nice shower....yuck!
