Hello, I just recently had a lower unit go bad and purchased a used one from a salvage yard. My boat specs are 1999 Johnson 225 v6. It says 12/1999 and the serial number is J225HGLSSC and it falls under the year 2000. Johnson 5000614 DRIVESHAFT ASSY is what suppose to be my driveshaft. The lower unit that went bad is a lighter gray color than the top half of my engine so i dunno if its the factory lower unit. I don't know what my other lower unit is. Was told it would work and came from a 90's Johnson v6. I took my old lower unit off and the drive shaft is 19inch 1/4ish from the top of the water pump. My new one i bought is 18 1/2 inches from the top of the water pump. I thought 20' and 25' was the only size. I had to take my shift rod from my old one and put in the new one because the bend was a little different. I believe changing the drive shaft is a little more difficult. Is this drive shaft going to work since its like a 1 inch shorter?

20 and 25 " refer to transom height and not the actual length of the driveshaft !-----You need to swap the upper driveshaft.----You are aware that the shift rod must be set to predetermined dimension ?-------Using it with the shorter shaft is inviting a disaster.
