They're better now, but Id be wary of used, Iff I was to get a CAR with CVT, nothing you want to be strong or fast, I'd look into what type of belt it has - newer ones have stronger materials, but still flex.
The only car that I would stay away from CVTs with is Nissan, their CVTs are known problems. Have not had issues with the two cars I have had with CVTs (Toyota), make sure to change the fluid. I usually do mine around a 100k , 60 is probably better. Last 2 cars of mine were 230 k and 254 k (still have it). 230 k was our first Highlander (hybrid w CVT), still ran very well but car was looking beat and ABS module died. Brakes still worked fine just didn't want my then teenage drivers without ABS (module is $1800)
FWIW- In early 2000's hondas had an issue with non CVTs our friends had an Odessey they kept replacing trans under warranty I think they were on their third when warranty was done they traded it. This was not a CVT
If she is buying used...... the cvt frequency of fluid change is around 25K SO, if she finds one look for documented maintenance. If people got a new CVT I am sure they were "guided" by maintenance techs to get it done.
