New hatch covers

I am the proud owner of a 1985 Wellcraft sportsman. This year I decided to make new hatch covers for the fish boxes out of Mahogany. My question is if I can use a galvanized metal strap on the underside to hold the three prices together? the only reason I am using it is because the clearance is tight in there. Will the metal react with the wood?

Galvanized would be one of my last choices for this or any marine application. Your best build will be with stainless steel and second best would be aluminum.
