New Forum?

Over the past week or so, there have been several threads on safety related issues. All of them seemed to garner a pretty good bit of interest, and that has caused me to wonder if it would be worthwhile to have a separate forum entitled "Safety" or "Accidents & Incidents." etc.

This subject area is common in a lot of interest groups, both online and in the form of columns in magazines. I would think that we could do it here and provide a place to discuss recent happenings and issues in regard to preventable boating accidents and safety issues. For purposes of reducing burden on the iboats servers, and avoiding copyright issues, I think any reference to a specific article or news piece would need to be made via link, rather than by posting text here.

What do you think? Is it worth proposing to the mods & iboats? Would such a forum have value in learning from the mistakes of others and from safety bulletins, etc.?

Re: New Forum?

I absolutely agree. Back when I was skydiving, the United States Parachute Association put out a monthly magazine on all aspects of the sport, and one section was on incidents and accidents. They listed the type of gear they were using, their experience, the details of the incident, and what could have been done to prevent it. I learned a lot from reading it every month and I'm sure I probably prevented a few mishaps because of it. Boating doesn't have the "in your face" element of danger that skydiving has, but the end result can be just the same. I hate to use the old cliche, "If it saves just one life", but... it's true!
I am absolutely in favor of it.

Re: New Forum?

I haven't spent that much time in the Stupid Human Tricks forum ... I'll take a look.

PS: Just looked and I'm thinkin' maybe, no. The forum seems to be as much about humor, boat names, dubious stories about folks trying to plane a boat with the trailer stiil attached, etc., as it is about serious safety issues.

Re: New Forum?

safety .....yes......

incidents......no.....(imho)

people will look for safety.....but not for incidents

lets let the incidents stay any where they land.....(merc....johnrude....general....sht......dc.....even resto)

i would think....the newbys would see it easyer in the main forums....and mabe learn.....rather than a seperate forum.

but all in all......a super idea ! :)

btw.....they have really been goin gang busters on this site...!
have you noticed?.....over the past three months there has been super improvments......

did anyone notice ...."my replies" in the pm section?....and the "finished proj's in the new seperate resto forum?..the addition of adding links......as well as the improvements to the ordering parts..........(im a canadian....and its super easy)

not that we needed any of them......

man.....were gettin spoiled ! :p

i wonder if we could click on a button on this forum and get gas for .40 cents a gallon ????:D :D :D:D
