new fishfinder for trolling motor

looking to put one on my tm. from what i read a dsi unit would not work since it has to be moving at 8 mph to function properly..is that correct?

i guess what i'm asking is a dsi would not function properlly at trolling motor speeds or drifting?

I see nothing on the Lowrance site that indicates speed needs to be 8 mph. That would also seem to be counter productive since trolling is generally is done at speeds well under 8 mph (at least for fish I go after) and most river currents (at least the ones I frequent) are also well under 8 mph. Where did you come up with the 8 mph comment?

i read some reviews at different sites and heard it mentiioned about the speed a few times...that is why i asked here..hoping someone here has a dsi unit on their tm and tell me what they thought about it

I have the HDS-7 (Gen 1) with LSS-1 Structure Scan.

I attached some pictures out of the 2011 Lowrance catalog that shows some specs on the Down Scan Imaging that might help answer the "speed" question.

thanx cjjjdeck for the info...i been looking at a garmin 500, hb571 then i saw the lowrance elite 4x dsi..

Glad I could help.

Frankly, barfly, those are all good units. I actually chose the Lowrance because I liked the Structure Scan technology and I've had almost 20 years worth of good experience using Lowrance/Eagle products.

Finish up with your features/benefits/cost diligence, pull the trigger on one and get out there fishin'!
