Just got an Evinrude twin, not sure of year or size. About 35 horse, a twin. Serial # on head plug says "Evinrude 35530, 02436. Cowling says Lark lV. Cowling info has oil to fuel ratio of 24 to 1. Is this still good advice on the beast? Recommended oil, fuel, gear oil. Any help will be appreciated. Looks to be in very good condition. Plugs show a chocolate brown, compression good, tranny seems fine, last run about 2 years ago. Need to replace a few fuel lines, clean out the carb, add fresh fluids and try it out. Unlike the one we had when I was a kid it has electric start! Enough already.

Phil

That's a 1962 40 HP evinrude ya got there. That year is borderline on the fuel mix, but if it says 24:1, I'd stick with it or at least 32:1 ratio. Use modern TCW-3 oil available everywhere. Depends on what type bearing they used in that motor. Regular unleaded fuel is fine(87). Put a water pump impeller in there before you run it on the water. It is probably shot after sitting for 2 years. Also drain and refill the lower unit oil. Regular high viscosity lower unit lube will work. Also available everywhere(Like Walmart, Ect.)

Info below:

web page

web page

Also it weighs 130-150 lbs. Prop is 10 3/8 x 13 1/4"(Normal) Gear Ratio is 12:21.

Re: New Evinrude Toy

35530 is a 1962 40 hp Evinrude.I would follow the 24:1 recommended fuel/oil mix using TCW3 rated two stroke oil and 87 octane gasoline.Use either dealer brand or aftermarket lower unit lube 80W90 with a API GL-5 service rating in gearcase.

Edit:Looks like Rick's got you covered.

Re: New Evinrude Toy

Thanks for the help guys. I posted that note less than 12 hours ago and you guys nailed it. And thanks for the reminder on the impeller replacement for the cooling. I would have skipped it. When I get it to running I'll update you savvy souls. It's on the business end of a 1959 Glastron Surflite my sweetie and I are bringing back to life. The whole kit was a gift from neighbors who moved. I'll have it on the water running and looking good for less than $300 if things keep going as they are. Thanks again.
