Ok I had a the OMC that died after 30 seconds.........I gave up on it and bought a reman. The engine I had was a 88 OMC 5.0 Chevy.....Im now going with a 89 OMC Ford. The guy at the dealer said the engine mounts were the same, and it will bolt right in. My old engine had the distributer in the back and this is in the fron, my old one was raw water cooled and this one is fresh water cooled. He said the harness and eveything else will bold right on.......Any input???

I would think about everything will stay the same. Even when I went from a S/B Mopar to a B/B Chevy the motor mount holes were only off by less then a inch. The Merc plug is the same. As for the closed cooling, never dealt with it so I will other more wiser folks answer.

HUH?
Why the heck did you switch to a ford motor if you have a chevy? Shoudl of stuck to what you had this way everything will bolt on. i dont think anything from your old motor will work on the new motor with the exception of the carburator
Did this motor come complete with accessories and exhaust manifolds ?

Now I understand your other post a little more.
The engine wiring harnesses are NOT the same between Chevy and Ford. If your dealer meant it the boat harness will plug into it, then yes.
The mounts are CLOSE to the same, but not exact (On the Front/sides of the engine). They will work, but you will have to do some aligning to get it right. Hope you have an alignment bar.
The rear mounts are the same and the drive and exhaust should work as long as the Ford has all the manifolds, risers, elbows and hoses. Most are different between Chevy and Ford.
The only water hose you well have to worry about is the one from the transom sheild. Not sure where to tell you to hook it, but all the other hoses will be COMPLETELY different from the Chevy raw water cooled system.

Ok I might have said it worng and Im sorry......The engine is complete ready to drop it.....The wire harness is what I was worried about. It should plug right in the the boat side right??? As far as the engine mounts I wanted to take the mounts off my old motor and just put them on the new motor since there already lined up. Will they bolt from my chevy to the new ford??

No, the bracket on the Ford is different from the Chevy. The part that actually bolts to the boat can be changed, but they won't line up with the holes in the stringer. They are in a slightly different location. But should set on the Chevy stinger pad ok.

Like I said in my other reply here, the harness plug from engine to boat are the same and will work.

Well i dropped the motor in, the rear mount fit perfect, the front mounts I had to drill 2 new holes (no biggie), the harness plugged right in.......BUT The exhaust isnt even close. The old Chevy set up at 2 peices between the riser and the y, the new ford set up is off by about 5" front to back. I took it back to where I bought the motor and its been a week and I still havent heard from them. IS there some sort of pipe to make up the difference or different manifolds or a different y??
