I have a 1987 Evinrude 15hp. My old engine cover had vents on it, but the one I bought is completly sealed. Do I need to worry about ventilation or over heating issues. I could drill some holes in the rear handle slot?

Interesting post. You have to have air to your carbs. No air in, no air out. No air, no runnie.

That's true. I am not familiar with that particular motor, but in all likelyhood the vents were more decorative than anything else. I'm betting there is another way for air to get in. But maybe not. Like I admit, I don't know for sure.

Would it be possible to see pics of the old and new covers??

The 76 15 i have has no vent either in the cowl yet my 83 9.9 does at the back of the cover-nowhere near the carb , IMO it's cosmetic. There is a hole the size of a siver dollar in the lower cowl near the carb, that is where the fresh comes from, don't worry about it.

Thanks for the info. I have only ran it in the driveway and it seemed to run fine. I will submit pictures later today if anyones interested in seeing the difference. Does anyone know where to find a picture history of Evinrude decal changes?

if you run it in the driveway using a trash-can/barrel/drum, take the cover off. if the exhaust gets to heavy around it, it will smother and make you think you have problems when you dont'. (experience)

The old-omc.de site has 70's decals, Nana's decals show some years on ebay but the colour are off due to repro restrictions, Leeroy's SSCHAPTERPSA site under Leeroy's ramblings shows some cowls in his 9.9 sections and google other than that.
