Hello all, I am currently looking at a 2000 stingray 220 with the 5.7 merc with 199 hours. The current owner doesn't have any idea if or when the gimble, shift cables, bellows etc were last chaged. Wondering if I should stay away or with only 199 hours should be fine? I would really appreciate some advice as I'm new to i/o boats.

For the rubber bits, I'd be more concerned with their age than with the number of engine hours on them. If the bellows are original to the boat, they are overdue to be replaced. As long as you're doing the bellows, you might consider replacing the shift cable. I'd also probably look closely at the trim limit and trim sender wires. If those are showing signs of age (brittle and/or cracking), they are much easier to do while change the bellows.

If the gimbal bearing is still smooth, I'd leave that alone.

^^^ I was just typing the same sorta' thing.

If the price is good, and the rest of the boat is in good shape - then, I wouldn't be afraid of those items.

With any new to you boat, you have to do all the maintenance the prior owner didn't do.

Rubber bits run off a calendar regardless if the boat is used or not used

Change them

As others have mentioned you will need to do some maintenance. Certainly with that few hours the boat has mostly sat. With any 24 years old boat do not expect to not have to do any work. Given that it sat it is unlikely that they kept up much with PM.

Gimble bearing and bellows are relatively easy maintenance items. I would be more worried about the floor, transom, and stringers. If it has been kept inside you are golden. But check for soft spots and rot in the wood. That is way more troublesome than the maintenance items.

Remember, the boat probably got 30-40 hours the first year, 20-30 hours the second year, maybe the same the third year. As others stated, at 199 hours over 25 years, it sat often
