What are you hoping to do with this boat? Fish, ski, party, take the family out?

How many people do you plan on taking out?

What lakes will you be going out on? Big lakes with rough water? Rivers? Small lakes w/ calm water?

Do you want an outboard or an inboard motor? Here inboards are preferred for partying and aesthetics. However I like the lighter weight and less maintenance of my outboard.

I personally would stay away from the Lowe. You want a boat that has been used regularly, not sat around unused for 4 years. Boats used frequently tend to be better maintained and those owners tend to fix issues as they arise.

Ask about what the owner does to winterize and summerize their boat.

Observe where and how the boat is stored. Try to get one that was stored indoors or at least under sheltered cover. Remember rain and UV rays can damage a boat.

I'm sure other could add more ....

Oh sorry I went off on a tangent. You only wanted to know about the price .... sorry can't help you there ..... the boats I buy all sparkle

Re: New Boat

Of those 2 choices, I prefer the Nitro. $1K more for a bigger boat, nicer looking, and a bytes motor. The Lowe, if not used often, probably needs alot of maintenance that was likely "deferred", die to the low usage. Just my $.02 :)

Re: New Boat

Pricing is very location dependent, and we couldn't be in more different locations - but - just as a data point, the Procraft I referenced in your other post was $13500. That's a 2006, with the Optimax motor, loaded with goodies (Fish Finder, 3 new batteries, safety equip, lines, etc). Again, might not mean anything compared to your neck of the woods. Spend lots of time on Search Tempest looking at multiple Craigslists in your area for an idea of what the boats are going for around you.

As a side note, that nitro is purdy!!!

I think those boats both look very nice and are fairly priced. All gonna come down to personal preference on this one. The Lowe having sat a bit doesn't concern me much as long as it was well covered and the hull wasn't sitting there full of water and leaves.

Re: New Boat

You might want to consider takeing that money and put it down on a new boat.
To me thats alot of money to spend on a used rigg but I like both of those boats.

+1 on this idea. That is what I decided to do when I purchased my 2011 Glastron GT 205. Plus the 2012 models will be coming out soon and you can probably snag a left over 2011 for thousands less, when that happens.

I disagree. Those are each $25-30k rigs new. They've been lightly used and are now half price and have already suffered the bulk of their depreciation. Smart move I'd say.

Re: New Boat

I personnaly would take the Nitro as it looks like it would lend itself better to family fun pulling a tub and having more of an all around general purpose water fun type rig.

The Lowe looks like it would be more suited to more serious/dedicated fishing.

Not sure what your primary usage will be though.

Either way good luck with your choice and welcome to the forums!!!!

Re: New Boat

Thanks for all the info guys. It will be primarily used for fishing and maybe the occasional tuber. I have look at some new boats and one in particular that caught my eye was a 2010 Alumacraft Dominator 175 sport. I was wondering what the price of these boats tend to be and also will a dealer negotiate more on last years model just to make room for the new boats?
