Re: New boat owner with stupid question

welcome to iboats.

If the boat sat with the bow up and plug out, there shouldn't be rot/foam issues, but still check.

One thing you haven't mentioned: the title--that would reveal what boat you have, so your first question makes me wonder if you have one. if not, don't spend a nickel until you get one, if you can--and it can be very very difficult if the seller won't cooperate.

And yours is not a stupid question, so don't hesitate to ask away.

I didn't read anywhere that it is winterized. If there is water in the block, Kiss it good bye, especially if it sat through last winter.

How is the trailer? In the pic, the right side looking from the front, the side beam looks open and not well connected to the main center beam. I hope it is just the way it looks in the pic, otherwise it may need some attention. Trailers are an integral part of the boating experience :)

It is bolted there and it also has a cross brace about 2 foot back.
I plan on replacing the trlr..
Personally I think it's too much boat for that trailer.

Very good, I think you are right to be planning on not using that trailer. The side beam should be angled at that joint and mate up exactly and be welded. That area looks like it has had some problems in the past.

Good luck with this project :thumb:

incorrect... there is nothing at all wrong with the way the frame is bolted to the tongue... that is factory original... I have two ezloader trailers that are built the exact way

While 100k miles is nothing for today's cars, it was close to end of life almost 30 years ago.

Even if the internals are in working shape, 27 years is well beyond the life expectancy of the gaskets and seals.

Think about it... Would you buy a 27 year old car with 100k miles and not expect troubles?

Depends on the car? If it was a Toyota, I'd expect no trouble, but might find a few? If it was a European car, at 10K miles...I'd expect a lot of trouble anything North of that, you're living on borrowed time?!

Re: New boat owner with stupid question

the 230 and 165 probably refer to the length of the boat, for example a 230 is a 23'0inch length and a 165 is a 16'5 inch length, so you could assume that you have a 185. the boat stores, even bi marts sometimes have pretty good covers that usually size by length of boat and style,(open bow, wake boat etc.). I think I bought mine for around $70 and it does fine on my 17' chris craft.
