Hi everyone,
Posted a few weeks back about an old aluminum hull I was thinking about buying that I thought may have been leaking. I think it actually was leaking, but I bought it anyways! Did some rebucking, and had about a cup of leftover gluvit?gave the seam in question (where it may have bee leaking) a good scrub and threw some gluvit on jsut for good measure, and I think it's mostly leak-free. Enough to get out on the water, anyways!
It's a Lonestar Riveira. Photos below.
So, I guess I have some questions. My plan is just to basically strip it, paint it, and then slowly add stuff as things are necessary. But I have an outboard, so I can use it as-is in the meantime. My main concerns right now are making sure it floats and doesn't sink, and making sure I don't overlook anything obvious that I need to do.
Five questions, for now:
1) I can't tell if it's leaking, but if it is, it must be leaking fairly slow. Is this kind of a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" thing? Like, are there any precautionary measures I ought to take NOW?
2) As you can probably see from the photos, there is a lot of under-seat storage. Any reason I should put foam or something floaty in there?
3) The transom area looks like it used to have wood bolted around it?there are definitely bolt holes drilled through. I am planning to just get some plywood and paint it and bolt it up, is there anything else I should do or be aware of?
4) There are also no cleats anywhere. Where should I be rigging up the anchor on this boat? There are eyelets on the stern, but the problem is that where I usually boat, it's fairly windy and I'd rather have the boat facing INTO the wind so the waves hit the V of the bow rather than the square stern. I figure if the anchor is connected at the stern, she'll be backwards from how I want her. So I'd like to anchor the anchor near the bow, if possible. Will a rail cleat work for that? I plan to run a painted piece of wood under the railing and then bolt the cleat to the wood, is this a solid plan or am I just an inexperienced dummy?
5) anything else I should know about these boats in particular?
Thank you in advance!!
