Hi, Im new to this site and I've already found it to be quite resourceful. Prior to posting I search for related topics but could not find the answer I was looking for so here I am asking the professionals for thier help.

I've recently purchased a 1964 9.5 hp Johnson Sea horse in which upon starting the outboard, it starts pissing out fuel down the shaft. I removed the engine cover while the outboard was on and observed an opening in the carburator which intermittenly spouted out fuel. Now Im not the smartest person in the world but I know that that shouldnt happen. Can some please help me, am I missing a hose or a plug or something?

I would say that your float needle is stuck or you float itself may be bad. Tear the carb down and give it a good cleaning in a suitable carb cleaner. I prefer to soak the carb parts over the aerosol cleaners. then rebuid the carb with a new carb kit.

An extra hole to intermitantly spout fuel into the engine housing is not in the OMC engineers' original design for that carb. Where is this hole; front side, port side, or starboard side? How big is it? If you pump the primer bulb firm with the motor off does it stay firm?
