My Grady White hull logo's and dual strips finally arrived. Anyone have any good tips or links on how to install them? Do I use soapy water and squeegy to install or simply clean surface and stick em on? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Ron

Re: Need Tips For Logo & Stripes Installation!

LX, you should find videos on youtube... I used to cut vinyl for the signshop at the zoo - eons ago but the technology hasn't changed.

Clean your surface and rinse well. Make sure you have masking tape and a flat squeege (looks like a rectangular piece of plastic - can find them at craft stores if one didn't come with your vinyl - might be called a burnisher there)

dry fit the graphic and make sure it is level. I mark my register points with masking tape so I can easily realign them. sometimes pencil ruins a finish and you may not be able to see it through the backer paper.

Remove the paper backer so the adhesive is exposed (your vinyl should be sandwiched between two backing sheets - remove the one on the wrong-reading side or bottom of the graphic). Then wet the surface of the adhesive vinyl lightly and your boat surface with a little soap and water from a spray bottle (three drops in the sprayer tops). it does not need to be sopping wet - just wet enough so you can slide the vinyl into place - no dry patches. Ths also allows you to see through the backer when lining it up.

Place the graphic on the surface. Once in place you should be able to slide it around a little and line it up to your tape marks. Begin to squeegee from the center out. Make sure to make a few LIGHT passes so your image will not slide out of register - then working from the center outward - squeegee all of the bubbles out. Keep the top backer on until you get all fo the water squeegeed out.

THEN remove your backer and wipe the surface.

IF you have a few bubbles - you can pop them with a very sharp pin and squeegee the water/air out (tiny hole si the key - just a prick with the pin). BUT make sure you squeegee over the top of a piece of paper so you don't rip the vinyl.

If you have a few colors to apply - start with the bottom layer first and work your way up. dry fitting prevents mistakes.

good luck!

Re: Need Tips For Logo & Stripes Installation!

Thanks jennis9. It's just like I saw window film put on cars! I'll also check out YouTube but I think you nailed it down for me. The dual hull stripes are differant though. There is no paper on top so I'm assuming that they just stick to the hull right off the roll and air pockets are pricked by a pin. Thanks, Ron
