need some advice

i just bought a 12 foot alluminum boat and it hasnt been registed in my state since 84 there are no numbers any where on it no title or any kind of paper work the only way to get anything on it is to know the make model and HIN but there is nothing anywhere, on the latest tag on the boat the numbers are missing.
what should i do????

Call your local DMV and ask them what you can do.

Your probably going to have to track down the guy/gal that registered the boat in 1984. In the future, NEVER buy a boat without the correct paperwork.

yep. might turn out to be useless. if its alum it cant be recycled without title here unless its cut up. never buy any atv boat auto ect without papers.

thanks, the good thing is i basically got it for free, im hoping the dmv will help me, im rebuilding it currently and we only need to register it if we go into federal waters.

If it was registered before then you should be able to register it again. Some states will do a search for the information you need for a small fee. You know it was registered in 84 so you should have some numbers to use to request a search. If not I think I would try to register it as homemade. In Illinois you have to register it to use it on any waters in the state. The main reason Il. wants them registered is so that you can pay fees and taxes. A used boat in Il. is like a gold mine to the state according to how many times it has been bought and sold.

I'm in Washington. And how would I go about saying its homemade? Where would I go

You might not need registration for your boat in the State of Washington because your boat is not of the required length according to what I read. Look up State of Washington boating regulations and it should tell you.

i looked and you dont need it as long as you dont go into federal waters
