I am looking at a boat to purchase which has a Ficht Ram 150 - year 2004. I have reviewed almost every post that is on this forum that has the word Ficht in it and have concluded that there is consensus that if the engine is 2000 or newer stay away from it, but no consensus on the following years. So my first questions what are your opinion of the 2004 Ficht Ram 150

I have also seen some consensus about about spark plug referencing, but not related to the post OMC time frame.

Are there any checks related to this engine, other than the compression check >90psi with less than 10% difference between cylinders, checking for water in the oil in the lower unit. Any other checks, we will be doing a "test drive" at which time I will see it go through its paces.

Any other thoughts or suggestions you, "oh knowledgeable ones", may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Need opinions

Ficht, of any year, has a terrible reputation in the marketplace. Actually, you have it backwards. 2001 and newer had the benefit of BRP QC. When OMC was in the process of going belly up (actually happened in 2000), QC was virtually non-existent. In any case, I wouldn't be inclined to buy any Ficht, even though the newer ones were pretty good. You will find some dealers refuse to work on any.

Re: Need opinions

Jim,
You are correct the consensus is that 2000 and older - not newer as noted in my post -, are not acceptable.
