I just bought my first boat, it is a 1991 15 ft cajun bass boat with a 70 hp Johnson on it. It runs great and I know it isnt a power boat, but i would like a little better performance pulling my kids on a tube. The prop was damaged byt the previous owner and i would like some info on what pitch i wold need to get the boat up and pulling faster....speed is not a big issue with me, but i dont want to slow it down to a crawl either. Right now it will run around 38 mph. Any info from you guys would be a real help......what kind of prop, pitch, number of blades etc.......Thanks Alot!!!!!

Re: Need new prop help!

Congrats on your first boat purchase. In order to determine which prop you will need, you will first need to get some info on your current set up. First, you need to find out what your Max RPM's that you are turning your current prop. Second, you need to know what your motors max RPM rating is from the manufacturer. When you have this data, you will be able to better determine what prop will suit your needs. Without this info, there is no way to figure what pitch you will need. So, get the data, and many people on Iboats will be glad to help you figure out what you need!! Good luck!

You also need to know what prop you are currently running and measure the distance from the prop shaft to the pad of the boat. Good luck!
