Ok, long story but accident in boat caused the throttle to go from about 4600 RPM in forward directly to reverse no neutral. Ending up blowing the drive shaft in 3 places. The unit housing on my lower end (which amazingly has not alterations or dents due to this accident) has 1667-9010-C stamped on it. By the way I have a 1996 90HP ELPTO outboard (Don't know if I can post Serials here or if I should so I won't). I'm looking for some replacements but I can't find any that say this number. I've went to mercury's part website but every time that i put in my serial number it tells me it can't find it.

My question is if I have found a 1994 Tracker Pro Series 90HP lower end that has 1667-9010-c3 stamped on it will this work with my motor as a direct replacement? If not can someone direct me to where I can find info on what will directly fit. Or if someone can tell me what spline(?) I should be looking for or how I can tell based on my motor and the parts laying in my garage then please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need new Mercury Lower Unit

I just went to that link, and although it does give me prices it does not give me any information on the part or if the part that I'm looking at (which is significantly cheaper) will fit. Thank you for posting that though and any other help would be appreciated.

A unit from 1987-1997 70-90hp will fit your engine as it a 3 jaw clutch dog and will bolt right up. A 1998-2006 75-90hp will also fit but you will have to change the shift rod & bracket to make it shift correctly as its the 6 jaw clutch dog. A four stroke unit will not fit do to driveshaft. A new one can run from $2100 and up depnding on supplier.
