Hello everyone, hope all is well
I just traded for a 1985 searay seville, very cheap like, but I know the floor needs to be replaced, however I did not know aboout all the fiberglass that covered up everything else. I am needing advice about a good tools I could use to aid in the removal of the rotten wood. any tips, tricks or ideas. I am very handy and have a small amount of tools. would a dremel with the cutting disk be good enough? I have all ready used 6 of the disk wheel and only gotten 1/2 of one side removed. any ways you can get the idea of what I am doing. thanks for any advise.

I'm new at this, so don't listen to much what I did. Be careful about going throug hull. I had lots of trouble, then I got air chisel. For me it slid along against the hull without trying to go through. Lot easier than lot of other things I tried. Hope stringers are good, mine wasn't.

Charles, the deck of my '88 SeaRay Sorrento (similar boat) was 1/2 plywood, sprayed with chopped fiberglass+resin. I used a standard "skil Saw" set at 5/8" depth, to cut it out.

You may find a layer of fiberglass over the foam floatation. If so, check to make sure the foam is dry and leave the layer intact.

good boat!

i love the rays.......as for tools....you will need an angle grinder as well...

the circ saw for deck removal is a must.

read the safety basics sticky at the top of the forum....it is really nessary that you follow those instructions.....ovet the past month or so sw have had a finger tip cut off...wood shavings in the eyes fiber glass slivers and more.

if you also read the last few pages of the hull ext thread...there is pics and discussions of some more tools....even more advanced tools.....

one of our top restorers uses the tip of a chain saw for demolition phase.

cheers
