Need Info on old Johnson 5.5

I recently inherited the family outboard motor. It is a 5.5 horsepower Johnson Seahorse. The model number is CD-12, and the serial number is 1308777. How old is this unit? What sorts of things should I do to it to bring it back after a long period of storage?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Steve

After looking in my Seloc Manual, I'd say that this is a 1955. Although the manual doesn't say this, the numbers increase by year, and 1956 is the CD-13.<br />Go buy yourself a shop manual for the engine. <br />Try to start it in a bucket of water, make sure that the water pump pickup is submerged though. If it doesn't start, don't worry. These motors are pretty simple and easy to fix. But like I said before, go buy a manual for it.
