Hello<br /><br />I have a 1971 Evinrude Fisherman 6 hp. (i think),. s/n = 6102E C 97723.<br /><br />Questions:<br />1) can someone confirm the year?<br />2) does anyone know the Points gap?<br />3) and spark plug gap?<br /><br />anyone have a manual? or know where i can get softcopy?<br /><br />thanks very much to everyone in advance! i really appreciate it. this was my fathers motor and he gave it to me before he passed. i would really like to have it running on the water again. thanks again.<br />Rob<br />Robarchibald@hotmail.com

The model # 6102E indicates a 1971 model. Point gap is probably .020, but might also be stamped on the flywheel. Plugs should be Champion J6C gapped at .030.<br /><br />You can get an owners manual from kencook.com, but most of the questions answered in the owners manual you can get answered here, and they are expensive. A better investment would be a service manual, available from the same place.

Welcome Canada!<br /><br />Indeed you have a 6hp 1971 engine.<br /><br />Point gap is .020.<br /><br />Plugs are Champion J6C set at .030. You can also set them at .040 for a little smoother idle.<br /><br />And as I already posted in your other thread, fuel mix is 50:1.<br /><br />By the way, if you need to add to a post, just click the "Edit Post" icon just across from your screen name.

Pre 1965 engines (John/Rudes) used 24:1 mix because of the extensive use of bushings instead of roller bearings. Yours can use a 50:1 mix with darn near any TCW-3 rated oil because it uses roller bearings.
