Need Help With Lower Unit

1982 Johnson, 50 hp<br />I can't get the lower unit to come off. It comes down about 2" and stops. I have a Seloc Manual,and have followed all the steps to remove<br />the lower unit. But the shift rod will not let the<br />unit come off. I have disconnected the control cable at the motor. It is a manual shift. Thanks for any help. Conrad

hello<br /> dude ya gotta take the starter off and look just below the bottom carb. use a swivel 3/8ths socket on a long extension and remove the disconnect pin. make sure you save the lock washer, carefully measure the distance from the top of the case(not shift housing) to the center of the hole at the end of the rod. write it down for future reference. it should be close to the chart in the manual.<br />good luck and keep posting
