need help with lower unit removal

I'm changing impeller on 1984 50 hp Johnson vro and I cant seem to see how to remove the shift shaft to get it to drop anyone have any hints or an easy way to do this? any help would be appreaciated thanks

It's under the carbs. I removed my cowling and carbs to get to it easier.

Its a 3/8 head swivel socket used to remove the pin from the left side under the carb and starter. Sometimes its easier just to pull the starter. Disconnect the battery first.

Remove the starter to find the screw.

Yup remove starter same as my 40hp a tip use a magnetic socket that little screw is a pain to get if you drop it lol.

thanks everyone pulled carb and starter and job went smoothly
