need help with boat ID

I just picked up a 1984 4 winns 20' santara 206 cuddy and i am not sure of what exactly i have. I can't find or there isn't a tag on the engine and the decals on the outdrive are real hard to read. The flame arestor say's 898 on it, i believe the transom ser# is 6816709 and the outdrive decal # is A305138. I am about 90% sure that i read the numbers right. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks

It's Mercruiser. The 898 indicates it's a 305 Chevy engine. The drive is an "R" drive.

Can i be sure of that without knowing the engine ser# ? If so is it the 898 or 898R? And what outdrive parts will i need the alpha r? thanks

Ayuh,...

The complete driveline package was known as the 898....
The 898 consists of a Chevy 305 motor, usually with a 2bbl. carb,+ a Mercruiser "R" drive,....
The "R" drive is a Pre-Alpha, as there were No Alphas back then....
The "R" drive became the "MR" drive,+ Then the Alpha 1 drives were intro'ed.....
