My daughters half sister committed suicide approx 2 weeks ago (24) leaving behind a 3.5 year old girl and an 8 month old son, birth dad never on birth certificates, alcoholic and druggie, gave up all parental rights, my daughter (already has my 2 yr old grandson) and her husband adopted them. Good to not separate the siblings. I thought that my daughter would/might get survivor benefits from Social Security? It's been years since I've been through this. I'll do the summer thing and any holidays I can (retired, live in TX), they all live in CA. - kids were moved from KY. Everything is still literally up in the air, any hints, info and advice would be great, Thanks guys

That's awful. Sorry to hear.
yeah its BS, ALL could have been avoided, ie, a loving parent, her dad died 2 years ago, she/was my ex wifes(knows welfare since she was 19, sherrifs, CPS etc knows her) ) incredibly abusive to all her 4 kids - daughter from 2nd marriage where he went screaming away as I did after 18 mos

There’s a few more questions guide. I am so so thankful for you guys knowledge so far, “
Hello Family! Calling for assistance 💪

If anybody has time could you look up how to give Utah's car to her neighbor who helped us in Kentucky? We have the car title in Utah's name. Utah did not have a will but did put in writing that the car belongs to whoever takes her kids.

And can I get her USPS mail forwarded to us without becoming an estate administrator?

I think I may have to become an estate administrator for both the car donation and the mail forwarded. If that's the case how do I do that?

So it's legal stuff and DMV stuff 💗

And by the way, we’ve got both of her kids squared away for now and they are permanently in California with two of my daughters, the sperm donor who was not on the birth certificate, likes his alcohol and drugs, much more and signed away all rights to the children

Just a bit more from my one daughter that has physical custody, “
Yep I did call 2 different Kentucky DMV offices and they have not answered, there's a ton more offices but I don't have time to call more. If that's something someone else could do that'd be great!

I also emailed 3 times over the last 2 weeks but no luck there either. “

My one daughter has one two-year-old boy of her own and a very busy job so she’s just asking all of us for whatever help we could give her

Oh, here is my new to me granddaughter she’s 3 1/2 and my grandson is 8 1/2 months but you can’t really see him in this picture. Then the other one is my daughter and the one in the stroller is my 2 1/2 year-old grandson and the guy is my son-in-law.

Any vehicle coming into KY from out of state also requires the local Sheriff to do a safety check. Think it's about $15

ok I understand sorry for missing it. Utah deceased didn't have a will but they want to give the car to the neighbor that helped.

A person in KY without a Will, will have an executor appointed by Probate Court. The executor will have all powers to settle the estate.

To find out who has been appointed will need to know where they lived and full name. Can then look up the death and if it has been posted in local paper. KY requires both death and probate be listed in local paper.

So far as mail, I don't see how that can be done because all that info will need to go to executor, as they need to pay the bills

As a heads up, probate court usually appoints an attorney to over see unless someone is there that can show just cause to appoint another. The issue with attorney's as we all know, they can eat up the estate real quick with their fee
