Re: need help water in oil!!!!!

the last pic is on the block is that a crack or just rust? when i looked in the plug holes i did not see any rust on the pistons. but i could see some water drops. i am praying it is just the head gasket i think i can do that job. but if its the head itself i may be sol that part is like 700 from what the shop told me.

Question on getting a new 3.0 gs block

Question on getting a new 3.0 gs block

I have a cracked block and want to get a new one. What I want to know is when you buy a remanufactured Block what comes with it? Also it's a 2000 reinell 180 I still owe about 6000 on it. Is it worth trying to get done or should I just chalk it up as a loss.

Ayuh,.... The choices are a Short block, which is the block, crank, pistons, cam, etc,.....

A Long block, which is a Short block, plus the head,...

'n a Bob-tail motor, which is fully dressed, plug, 'n play, with all the accessories,...

Seems like alota money to throw away,...
Are you doin' any of the labor, or payin' to get it done,..??

If you owe money on it and sold it as is could you pay the loan off with what you got for the boat (needs new engine, 14 years old) not likely.
I'd plan on getting a new long block and transfer all the accessories to the new one. I would probably replace the manifold and riser for the new engine.
How exactly did you winterize it? Did you drain all the drains and hoses manually, or did you use one of those suck the AF up the drive tanks?
Because if you did it the 2nd way, that might have been what caused your problem. Of course the crack could have been there before and the former owner might not have even knew it.
Personally I would never replace an inboard and not put closed cooling on it. It adds money and some complexity but it makes winterizing easier and at least here in salt makes the engine last at least 50% if not more so longer.
I manually drain mine and manually fill it with -100 Marine AF with corrosion inhibitors....because.....
"while air doesn't freeze...here in the salt pond...rust never sleeps...."

Yes I did the af crap! the guy at west marine told me that was the best way to go! The more I deal with them the more I realize how incompetent they are. My plan is to do as much of it as I can myself. The guy at the shop said he thinks he can find a block for around 1600. But I guess there as about a 600 core on it. with it being cracked I would only get half that back. He said it will take me a long time but it's really not that hard of a job?
