I recently inherited a 1987 Glassport 16'5" Bowrider from an uncle who sadly passed a few months ago. I have been meaning to get out on the water with it, but only recently took into consideration that I have no idea how to start this boat -- or any boats at all. It hasn't been used in about five months but is in otherwise excellent condition. Mild weather damage but the engine is pretty goo quality. Would you mind giving a novice boater some help?

the 1987 Glassport 165 would be an I/O. most of the pictures out there have a mercruiser on them. not sure what the heck a newport standard is.

Were you ever on the boat with your uncle? How fast did it go?

Take a boating safety course.----Read an owners manual 3 X and read some books on boating.---It is much easier to get into trouble on a boat , then to get out of trouble.-----Things go wrong quickly when they do go wrong.-

Think this might just be the manufacturer's website:

Electric outboard, 3HP.

Umm....in the water, twist the handle for throttle?? Really no "start" to one of these if that's truly what it is. Not going to be a speed demon on a 16' boat.
