I just bought a 4 hp evinrude (yachtman) motor for my row boat from Kijiji, I never had a motor before. I think the throttle is on the side and it says stop, start, and fast. It also has two knobs on the front of the motor, thats says rich and lean, and the other one says slow and fast.

I bought a new fuel line. I primed the bulb and pulled the cord and nothing. I repeated this a couple times and finally gave up. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong. I'm not sure what settings the knobs should be on and where the throttle should be.

Can anyone help me.

Thanks

I have the same motor, when starting make sure your lever is in the start position. The two knobs on the front are for your carb adjustments and shouldn't be messed with unless tuning them. Motor will not start unless that lever is in the start position, try half choke then it should fire up.

Sounds like your carb. needs a good cleaning and you might as well put a kit into it at the same time. The high speed jet is probably dirty. Rick.

Agree, clean the carb out and rebuild it. shouldnt be too hard. I can attest to the fact that an outboard runs like hammered dogcrap with the carbs all munged up
