Hello,
really need some help with a poorly done patch on a boat I bought this winter. Its a 88 supra bravura 21 foot ski boat. The patch is 2x2 foot roughly (may be a smaller). I think the location may be a problem. It is located in between the 2 main stringers, in the very aft section of the boat. It starts at transom and goes 2 foot forward and as I said 2 foot width between strigers. The rudder post is also coming down through the middle of the patch. They fiberglass the interior part of the patch but it looks like they didn't fiberglass the exterior and put gelcoat right on the wood. The gelcoat has started to bubble up and the wood underneath is soaked. I was thinking of grinding the whole section out and taking 2 or 3 layers of 3/4 marine ply and bolting them together (the layers of ply are to give structure to the rudder post). Then fiberglassing on both sides and drilling ruder hole through that and then gelcoat exterior. Am I on the right track or way off. Pretty good at fiberglass work so I think I could do the work. Also are there and concerns about transom or will I be able to just glass it to transom. Any suggestions for this project would be helpful. Thanks
