NEED HELP - Merc 4.3L Tee Valve - Missing Parts!!

Over the weekend a buddy of mine was winterizing his 4.3L motor and when he took off the thermostat housing he found out that the tee valve is missing the ball, the nut, and the sping on one side is missing.

Looking at the cooling system it appears to be raw water intake. Any thoughts on what he should do next? Cant imagine it would be good to have those bits floating around in the motor. Do they tend to settle somewhere? Also, what is the function of the Tee Valve???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,.... You'll need to identify what you're workin' on Awhole lot Better...

In your other thread you said it's an OMC, year 2005...

OMC went Outa Business in 97 I believe...

It would sure help if you gave the SN of your engine, then we could see what you are supposed to have.
A 1985 4.3 is a lot different than a 2010 4.3, and is it Carbed, or EFI, if EFI is it TBI or MPI, is it raw water cooled?
