Need help identifying my serial number.

So bought a 9.8hp 2 stroke mercury motor, I found the serial number but I can't figure out the model from it. This is the number: A707538, any help helping identify it would be appreciated. Thanks.

9.8 or 9.9 ?------Made where.-------Pictures are almost guaranteed to help in cases like this.

It may be a 9.9, i was told 9.8 by the guy I bought it from. This isn't my pic but its identical looking to what I have.

Those decals were used in the 84 / 85 year models.----It is a 9.8 hp---First thing to do is a new impeller.

Your serial number A707538 is coming up as an MERCURY 9.8 M model number 1010205 which makes it a 1985.

You could search the model number online for a parts diagram if needed.
