My 91 glasstream came with a 3.0. I have the second gen alpha 1 but was unlucky enough to have the point distributor. I am attempting to figure out which kit I need from pertronix. The local dealer said I need a 1146a...it doesn't fit ! The plate that goes back into the distributor is much larger than the distributor body. Would appreciate someone telling me which kit I really need. I am including some pictures that I hope will help figure this out. I am guessing this is not a delco distributor ?

1146a should fit what you have but it is not the one you want. Make sure the one you get starts with a 9, 91146a should be right. Maybe you the wrong part. The ones that start with 9 are the ignitor II model. The main upgrade is that you don't have to worry about ruining the unit. With the original ignitor the module would blow if you left the key on without the engine running.

I believe that up until 1989 the 3.0 used the same Petronix as my 470 (91146A), however according to the parts lists they changed distributors in 1990 and you are correct, that Petronix will not fit. As far as I can find, there is not one that will work for your engine. It does not appear that Sierra or Mallory make one either. What I would suggest is staying with the conventional points and going with a high voltage (45,000) coil to give you a hotter spark.

You have the Prestolite distributor, not a Delco.
The Delco distributor was last used in 89, from 90 on the points distributors were Prestolite.

Thanks for the answer Don, I knew something was up. So in this case would it be the 1546 or is this some other Prestolite distributor ? edit- It looks like the 1546 won't work. Only the sierra kit will work.

I never heard of the the blowing up issue...I thought its only really advantage is more accurate timing.

I think I just figured out that the sierra kit is partially comprised from the 1545. But I can't be sure yet.
