I am rebuilding my boat currently and getting ready to drill holes in my dash for gauges, steering, switches, ect. and am looking for help in regards to which tachometer i need. My motor is a 1993 75HP mercury and ive included a photo of the wiring plug from my controls that would supply the tach. I remember from my last boat it was some harness that plugged into the control box in the same shape as the black plug in my photo. I wasnt sure if i needed to buy a special harness/plug to connect the tach to the controls.

I can't tell what #of pins in your plug end. Various cables out there.
Grey is a tach wire.
Maybe 5 wires?...pins?
so, yes, you need a cable to plug into yours, then practically any tach with separate connectors can be used.

Wiring is illustrated on the PDF I attached. Gray wire to Send. Purple wire (switched 12 volts) to IGN. And Black wire to GND.

Depending on your control, you may want Quicksilver harness A-84-86396A4. It plugs into a round connector at the control and powers the tach.

The round plug is half round inside, where the connector pins are.
