I've been working on a fiberglass hull 16' 1967 Starcraft Newport and want to replace the bow eye. The original eye has such a small eye hole that the hook from the trailer winch cannot completely enter the eye (see photo).
I've searched pretty thoroughly online and have not been able to find a replacement eye that has the same thread (5/16-18) and other dimensions as the original. I've attached a photo of the original next to a commonly sold replacement. Note that the replacement is too large. I would like to find a replacement similar to the one in the photo but of the correct size. I don't want to drill new holes if unless I absolutely have to. I've attached a photo with the dimensions of the original labelled A-E.
The dimensions are approximately:
A: 5/16
B: 3 and 3/4" (3.75")
C: 11/16"
D: 5 and 1/4" (5.25")
E: 15/16"
The "D" dimension is not critical for my application, and the 3 and 3/4" shank length ("B") is longer than it needs to be. I remember noting that there was a lot of extra thread inside the boat when I disassembled the bow eye, but I am not sure exactly how much was "extra." Does anyone know where I can find a stainless steel replacement?
