I installed a Super winch on my duck boat for those day when i fall asleep watching the tide drop. the boat weighs over 1400 lbs, so i cant move it when it gets stranded. I have wired a super winch with its pendant control and i keep it in the stern port hatch. I needed to use it this past weekend and it wouldnt run....i am sure everything was corroded. I installed it 1.5 years ago and used it last summer....

so i need to replace all the electrical components, that power this winch...and i need them water proof.

anyone know of a source??

if there is a suitable substitute, let me know9 i currently am running my hydraulic jack plate with a relay set up from my 1988 eveinrude 70 hp TNT unit!!.....because the makers relays were always going bad.,

thanks

bob

Get a solenoid instead of a relay, and after you use the heat shrink ring terminals on the wiring, coat everything in liquid electric tape after it's all assembled and working and before it gets corroded.

Or even mount a 4x4 outdoor electrical box with cover on the transom, run the wires out the bottom through the holes, and have your relays inside sprayed with corrosion guard or liquid tape.

i dont think the relays on a boat are special its the box that they are mounted in that is protecting them. due to the heat produced by a winch for a truck most have been designed for airflow to help cool the cables and contacts. on a salt water boat thats proberly not the best idea. if you can not keep the salt out then i agree with don that liquid tape is the best defence.

The salt is in the air. You’re not going to keep things from being eaten up by putting them in a box unless you purge the salt laden air from inside the box. THe only way to beat SW is with corrosion resistant components.

As noted above, go to a solenoid instead of the relay. Use marine rated components. A windlass relay will work. Use tinned cables and lost of grease. Cleaning the connections become part of your yearly maintenance routine

and lost of grease.

Ayuh,.... Well Greased connections, I think is the Best preventive measure you can use,....

Even with the paint on tape, on a new connection, I'd Grease it after the stuff dried...
